Description


This training is designed to give students the fundamental knowledge and form necessary skills required for planning and monitoring the execution of a project.

The training is based on a synthesis of best practices in the software development industry. During the presentation of information and exercises, much attention is paid to the methodological aspect of proposed approaches, which are proven by examining real-world projects.

Objectives


The purpose of this training is to teach the basic knowledge and skills necessary for the effective performance of duties of a software development project manager - in terms of drawing up schedules and monitoring their implementation.

After completing the training course, the students will be able to:

  • Understand and put into practice the most effective planning methods of monitoring project execution.

The objectives of the training do not include:

  • In-depth study of the principles for Agile project execution;
  • Studying certain aspects of project management at the expert level;
  • In-depth study of planning tools (creating schedules) and control project execution.

The study of these issues is the subject of separate training courses (see Recommended Training).

The objectives of the training also do not include:

Studying the basics of project management (see Prerequisites).

Target Audience

  • Project team leaders who have recently become project managers or are preparing for this role;
  • Project managers and project team leaders who have spent some time in the role, gained practical experience and now want to organize their understanding of managerial activities, learn new and deepen existing knowledge, reinforce existing skills, and master new ones to perform current duties in an effective way;
  • Leading technical experts preparing for a role of project team lead or project manager ("candidate pool").

Prerequisites

  • Passing of training PM-001 or knowledge / understanding of the topics covered;
  •  Experience in software development projects;
  • Knowledge of the basics of project management and at least some practical experience;

Note: Lack of practical managerial experience is acceptable if it is compensated by prior theoretical knowledge in the field of project management, an active interest in this topic and readiness to make every effort to keep up with more experienced colleagues (working in the same group).

  • Measuring tools to estimate fact against plan
  • Analysis of deviations by control events (theory 0.25h; practice 0.5h; optional practice 0h)
  • Analysis of the Earned Value (theory 0.5h; practice 0h; optional practice 0h)
  • Analysis of the remaining scope of work (theory 0.25h; practice 0h; optional practice 0h)
